The Michelin Cup

The Michelin Cup

The MSN Circuit Rally Championship (MNCRC) in association with MSVR, featuring the Michelin Cup and the Protyre Challenge are delighted to announce an exciting new re-launch of the Michelin Cup ahead of the 2018-19 season.

Having ran for three years the revamp of the Michelin comes as part of Bibendum’s (Michelin Man’s) birthday celebrations in 2018 and, sees a number of exciting new changes. The revamp will see a new logo introduced, increased media coverage and a new array of prizes put on offer.

The revamp of the Michelin Cup sees a brand-new logo introduced for the first time. Coming in the form of a sticker it will allow competitors to showcase on their car their inclusion in the Michelin Cup.  Featuring the iconic Michelin Man and the iconic Michelin colours of blue and yellow, the new logo ties in with a redesign of the whole Michelin logo, which saw Bibendum reconfigured as a modern drawing.

Michelin Cup competitors will also see increased media coverage through the 2018-19 season. Built into the new TV deal with Torque and rolled out across all the MNCRC media platforms, there will be increased mentions for competitors in the Michelin Cup, including a dedicated section within the new 1-hour long highlights package. There will also be a round-up of all Michelin Cup results on our social media and websites after each round, ensuring those running Michelin tyres will be promoted.

The prize package for competitors has also been reconfigured, as we look to reward not only those who finish higher up, but those in the classes as well. Points are awarded with reference to both the competitors class position and their official results, and a prize package worth over £10,000 available, the overall prize package extends down to fourth.

The winner of the Michelin Cup will receive 8 competition tyres, free entry into round 1 of the 2019-20 Michelin Cup and a class award. Further details on the prize package can be found in the Championship regulations and on our website.

As for each round, the highest placed Michelin Cup competitor at each round will receive a pair of tyres for use on the next round, while all class winners will be entered into a draw for a pair of Michelin Tarmac Competitor Tyres for use on their next round as well.

The revamp comes at an exciting time in the relationship between the MNCRC and Michelin, with Michelin having developed a brand new 15”, 200 wide tyre specifically for competitors in the Championship. Off the back of development with 2016-17 and 17-18 Michelin Cup winner Ian Woodhouse, this new tyre will benefit competitors in the Michelin Cup series as they use the same FIA tread pattern as it uses in the WRC.

Ahead of entries opening up on the 24th August, planning for the 2018-19 MSN Circuit Rally Championship season is hotting up, with an enhanced media package having already been announced, plus brand-new sponsorship in the form of Beatson’s Direct, Auden’s Insurance, Mintex, Smith & Jones Engineering and renewals from Graham Coffey & Co. Solicitors, Coronado Controls, Protyre and Hockly Motorsport.

The Championship kicks off in November with the Neil Howard Stages at Oulton Park, before heading to Cadwell Park and Knockhill Circuit before Christmas 2018. Resuming in January 2019, the Championship heads to Brands Hatch, Snetterton, Donington Park and Anglesey before returning to Cadwell Park for its finale in April 2019. Full dates are available on our website.
